How to get more dJs customers

In dJs nearly everything arrives by referral and that will not change. What can change is how many of those referrals turn into a call, because today some of them get lost on the way.

Where your customers come from today

In dJs the customer arrives with your name already in hand, given to them by someone they trust. The sale is half made before the phone rings.

What happens next is where it leaks: almost everyone looks that name up on their phone before writing, to confirm you exist and work seriously. Finding nothing makes them hesitate.

What one customer is worth, which decides everything else

One a full night job leaves you $800 to $2,000, and in dJs the same customer will not call you again for years. Worth saying out loud, because it changes the whole strategy.

If they do not come back, everything rides on the volume of new people. You can spend part of that $2,000 landing each customer and still come out ahead, but the spending has to repeat every month, since the book of business does not stack up on its own.

Which is why showing up in search matters so much here: it is the only thing that keeps bringing new people without you paying per head.

What to do, in order

  1. Make it easy on whoever refers you: one link of yours they can forward.
  2. Make sure your name can be found on Google, since that is the first thing the referred person does.
  3. Collect reviews, which are the public version of a referral.
  4. Call back the customers from a year ago, which is where new referrals come from.

What will not work, whatever they sell you

Buying leads. They sell the same lead to four competitors and you end up competing on price against people who do not want to be there either. It patches a bad month. It builds nothing.

Paying for ads before you have somewhere to send people. If the ad lands on an empty profile or a number nobody answers, you are paying for visits that leave.

The calendar decides too

In dJs the year is not flat: wedding and quince season runs the year.

Whatever you set up to bring customers is better ready before the peak than during it. Google takes weeks to give something new a place, and those weeks are better spent while the phone is quiet.

doubts

What people usually ask

How long before I see new dJs customers?

The free things, like the Google listing and reviews, start moving in weeks. Ranking in search on your own takes months and depends on how crowded your area is. Anyone promising customers next week is selling you paid advertising, which is a different thing and stops the day you stop paying.

Do I need social media or is Google enough?

It depends on how your customer buys. If the work gets chosen by looking at photos, social does half the job. If they call you in a hurry or after comparing, showing up on Google and having proof you work seriously matters far more.

What if word of mouth is already working?

Then leave it alone for now. Word of mouth is the best channel there is and you do not fix what works. It is worth moving when you want to grow, when you lose a steady customer, or when you notice people refer you and still do not call.

If your situation is not here, call and I will answer it on the phone in five minutes.
