Almost six years paying for a domain that shows nothing.
Heritage Amish Bake Shoppe has a 4.9 on Google with 599 reviews and ten thousand Facebook followers. Their domain has been theirs since December 2020 and there is no page at that address. The proposal is what should be there.
The situation
599 reviews and a 4.9. Ten thousand followers on Facebook, where they post closures, seasons and whatever came out of the oven that morning. The whole business is running except one thing.
Their domain has been registered in their name since 26 December 2020 and the family’s email runs on it. But it has no server record: there is no page at that address. They have spent almost six years paying for a door that opens onto nothing.
Meanwhile the domain with the full name has already been taken by another Amish bakery in another state. And the sister business at the same address, run by the same family, has had a website since 2006.
The decisions
The prices are theirs, copied from their own sign: the large peach pie at 24.95 and the small one at 9.95. The seasonal calendar is theirs too, month by month the way they announce it: strawberry in May, lemon in June, flag pies on the Fourth of July, peach through mid-August.
No contact form. The call to action goes to their Facebook, which is where they actually announce a closure or the end of a season. A field that leads nowhere shows immediately.
English only. The language switch the Miami proposals carry adds nothing here and leaves half the page untranslated.
What came out
The first draft talked about «four generations» and «over sixty years». Neither one is verified, so neither one appears. The colors come from their real logo, the steaming pie embroidered on the staff aprons, and not from a palette catalog.
What the page includes
- The prices from their own sign, not rounded or invented
- The seasonal calendar month by month, the way they announce it
- Sixty of their own photos, none from a stock library
- The call to action goes to their Facebook, where they do post
- English only, which is the language of their customers
