SEO for plumbers, with the real search numbers

SEO for plumbers means showing up for free when someone searches for a plumber in your area, in the map at the top of Google and in the websites below it. It's worth more in plumbing than in almost any other trade, because the clicks are expensive: advertisers pay about $76 on average for one click on "emergency plumber" in the US. Every customer who finds you without that click is money you keep. The map depends on your Google Business Profile and your reviews; the rest depends on a page that names each service and each city the way people search them.

Read the table two ways. By volume: "plumber near me" dwarfs everything, and Google answers it with the map, so the Google profile matters most. By service: water heaters, drains, sewer lines, leaks and repiping each have their own searches, and a page that names them can show up for each one.

Step 1: the Google Business Profile

The map decides most "near me" searches. What moves it: distance to the person searching, how well your profile matches the search, and your reviews.

  • Primary category: "Plumber". Add secondary ones only if they're real, like "Water heater installation service" or "Drainage service".
  • Service areas, if you go to the customer, with the address hidden. See how to set your service area.
  • Services listed one by one: drain cleaning, water heater repair and installation, leak detection, sewer line repair, repiping.
  • Hours that are true. If you take emergency calls at night, say so; if you don't, don't. A profile that says open and a phone nobody answers loses the review.
  • Reviews after every job. Ask on the spot, while the water is running again. A review that says "fixed our water heater in Hialeah the same day" helps the profile match both the service and the city. How to ask is in getting Google reviews.

Step 2: a page that names every service

A plumber's website helps the profile and ranks on its own for searches by service. What it needs:

  • A title that says trade and place: "Plumber in Miami · 24-Hour Emergency, Drains and Water Heaters".
  • Your phone at the top, dialing when tapped, and staying on screen as they scroll.
  • Your CFC license number as text. More on the license in the Florida plumbing license.
  • One section per service, with the searched words in the heading: water heater repair, drain cleaning, leak detection, sewer line repair, slab leak repair, repiping.
  • "24 hours" written where it shows, if it's true.
  • The cities you cover, written out.
  • A page that loads fast on a phone. The customer is standing in water; a slow page loses the call.

We reviewed seven real Miami plumbing sites in the best plumbing websites. Five of the seven show their license; none shows before and after photos of its own work.

Step 3: pages by service and by city, when you can fill them

The highest-value services deserve their own page once the main one works: water heaters and sewer lines are good candidates because each job is worth a lot and the searches are specific. City pages work when they have something real about that city (jobs done there, the kind of homes, the usual problems). A page that only swaps the city name is easy to write and easy for Google to ignore.

What not to pay for

  • Anyone promising the first spot on Google.
  • Monthly SEO on top of a page that doesn't name your services or cities. Fix the page first.

If you'd rather not do the monthly part yourself, our local SEO plan keeps your Google profile current and adds something new to your site every month, for $59 a month with no contract.

What people usually ask

What is plumbing SEO?

It's what makes a plumber show up in Google without paying per click: a complete Google Business Profile, steady reviews, a website that names each service and city, and a few real local links.

How long does SEO take for a plumber?

The Google profile can start bringing calls in weeks if the category, hours and reviews are right. A website takes months to rank, longer if the domain is new. Start with the profile.

Is SEO or Google Ads better for plumbers?

Ads bring calls today and charge every time; with clicks around $40 to $76 for the main emergency searches, they add up fast. SEO takes months and then keeps bringing calls without a per-click cost. Most plumbers who grow do both, and use ads less as the free channels start working. Our [local SEO plan](/local-seo) is $59 a month, less than two clicks on "emergency plumber".

Should I have a separate page for each service?

For the services that bring the most money, yes, once the main page is working. Water heaters, sewer lines and repiping are the usual first ones.
